Alfa Romeo Tires NJ

The team at the Ramsey Alfa Romeo service center are here to meet all of your repair and maintenance needs. And some of the more common services we perform revolve around your tires including regular rotations, ensuring the tire pressure is optimal and even replacing any tires that need it.

Even though your regular vehicle maintenance schedule will mostly dictate when to change your Alfa Romeo’s tires, there are a few ways to know when you’ll need a new tire either right away or sooner than you expect.

1. Tread Depth

Your tire’s treads are the raised sections of rubber that are designed to give you ideal traction. However, those wear down over time driving whether the weather & road conditions are inclement or not and result in the tread wear indicator bars starting to appear. The ideal tire tread depth is 1/16 of an inch or higher, otherwise you’ll find that the tires will not give you the traction & control you’re looking for.

If you’re a DIYer, you can also use the “Penny Test” to determine if your tread depth is good. This test comes from flipping a penny upside down & putting it into the center axis of the tire, with the need of a new tire coming from if you see all of Lincoln’s head when put into the tread.

Signs You Need New Tires

2. Damage to The Tire

Even though every tire rolls on the road the same amount, you may see indications of damage to a specific tire depending on your driving patterns. Some of the more common tire damage that shows that you need a new tire includes:

  • Cracks in the sidewalls
  • Rubber bulges
  • Rubber blistering
  • Tire thread wires being exposed
  • The inability to keep the ideal air pressure

3. Excessive & Consistent Vibration

There are plenty of times when you feel a weird shaking as you drive that you should look into with a vehicle inspection. If the issue isn’t the brakes, shocks, struts or steering, then it may point to a problem with one or more of your Alfa Romeo’s tires.

4. Cold Weather

Certain tires are designed to handle the inclement driving conditions associated with North New Jersey winters including snow, hail, slush & ice. And usually, your tires need to be changed before the cold weather comes because snow tires are designed with more flexible treads to handle the storms & blizzards Mother Nature has to offer.

5. Uneven Tire Wear

Your Alfa Romeo’s tires should all ideally wear at a similar rate, or at least at the same rate on each axle. If you find that one of your car’s tires is wearing at a different rate than the others, this last warning sign is an indicator that you need a wheel alignment as well as a potential new tire.
