Summer Driving Tips NJ
The weather has been getting a lot warmer and it finally feels like summer! You know that summer driving presents different circumstances than any other season in New Jersey.

From before you even drive through pulling back into your driveway, there are a few key tips that you should know for summer driving.

1. Inspect Your Vehicle

We know that you’re going to drive more this summer than you would in the winter since there won’t be as much inclement weather to deter you. That means the odds of something going wrong on the road increases. We recommend getting your vehicle checked out at our Alfa Romeo service center before you hit the road for an extended trip to help prevent incidents like a tire blowout, dead battery and overheating by getting your parts & fluids inspected.

2. Stay Alert

Not only are there more drivers on the road, there are more teen drivers now that school’s out for summer and more construction due to the warmer weather. Even though you can do everything right to prevent an accident, their inexperience on the road could lead to trouble, especially at nighttime. Take an extra second to make that turn or change lanes and keep your eyes in front of you in case someone stops short.

3. Keep Everyone Safe

This tip is twofold. The first is to ensure that everyone in the car is buckled properly from adults to children in booster seats or car seats. The second is to ensure everyone is hydrated whether you’re driving or waiting in the car while it’s off since the summer weather can cause heat stroke, especially in children.

4. Prevent Distractions

You can very easily get distracted while you’re on the road, whether it’s by others in your car or you’re alone. A few ways you can take care of distractions on the road include:

  • Make sure you focus on the road & pull over if you need to stretch or are tired
  • Telling your passengers that you can’t concentrate & to quiet down
  • Put on sunglasses and/or use your visor(s) to keep the sun out of your eyes
  • Take proper medication for your allergies, so you don’t get bothered by watery eyes and sneezing fits

5. Pack an Emergency Kit

Even if you do everything right, something can still happen to your car. That’s why you should keep a kit full of emergency supplies in your vehicle. Among the items you should pack are:

  • Cell phone & charger
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Car jack
  • Water bottles & nonperishable food
  • Basic tools, extra auto fluids & duct tape to make on-the-fly repairs

We feel that these 5 summer driving tips will keep your mind at ease as you hit the road in North New Jersey and beyond. We hope you make Ramsey Alfa Romeo one of your summertime destinations this year!
